Helmsman was born from frustration. As boat owners, we were tired of the anxiety of handing our vessels to strangers with nice resumes but no proof they'd actually run our type of boat well. So we built the marketplace we wished existed.
The Problem We Solved
Every boat owner knows the feeling. You've spent years learning your vessel's quirks. You know the starboard engine runs hot above 3200 RPM. You know the anchor windlass needs feathering. You know exactly how to prime that stubborn head pump.
And now you're supposed to hand the keys to someone whose only proof of competence is a Coast Guard license and some generic reviews that say "great trip!"
We asked ourselves: What would it take to actually feel confident? The answer wasn't better credentials. It was proof they'd handled our type of boat before, and proof they'd treated other owners' boats with respect.
So we built the Vessel Match System and the Owner Protection Report. Now you don't have to hope — you know.
